They are based around the TEMPERANCE system, which means you use Tempering Solutions instead of enchantment stones. There is no way in-game to increase the success rate of tempering like there is for enchanting, like supplements. As for the weapons breaking, the regular version of the weapon does (Kaisinel/Marchutan Protector) when temperance fails, and I believe the Peitan/Illumishinel version does as well, but I am too scared to test it myself.
