They just went full Blizzard on us.

The AION player base is PC only and they just made a NYERKING MOBLIE GAME!

It gets worse: There is no Elyos vs Asmo/ Faction vs Faction in A2.

The game is pretty much Elyos only.

[.....]

deep freaking sigh. I was about to get excited.

Why is there an actual Aion 2 website and not an Aion Tempest website if this is the mobile game referring to Aion Tempest?
https://aion2.plaync.com/

Aion Tempest was the previous name. It was announce back in 2017 as the new project. They have since then changed the name into Aion 2 (Mobile Game).

There is no hope. Aion 2 will be a mobile game.

NCsoft launched its 'Director's Cut' event to introduce its new MMORPGs, and released five new mobile MMORPGs. Among them, 'Aion 2' is a game that made the official numbering title by strengthening 'Aion Tempest' released in 2017. Information on PCs and console MMORPGs using 'Aion' IP, which was recruited as a new project last July, has not been released yet.

There is a PC sequel...

"Information on PCs and console MMORPGs using 'Aion' IP, which was recruited as a new project last July, has not been released yet."
There have been a few interviews with NCKorea stating there is an Aion Online 2 in the works, one in relation to Aion Online. Its going to be on Unreal Engine 4 and will be for both Console and PC

Mobile games are where the money is; game developers can make ungodly amounts of money through micro transactions via mobile as people are more inclined to simply tap once or twice in the screen to pay. Buying stuff on PC goes through a longer process where people may halt at any stage.

It's gambling and casino floor tricks at work.

Watch them go right back to console and PC games the moment there is enough pressure to regulate online games with RNG based systems for real money as casinos. As I said in another reply, government regulation is the key here. Now in the USA at least with a Democrat house, big businesses are in trouble, I'm looking forward to what's in store for these tech companies who have had more than a decade of unregulated nonsense at the consumer's expense.

They did well, nothing surprising from NCSoft.

"mobile’s revenue total of 209,909 million Korean won is still about on par with what the entire company was bringing in before mobile really took off"

Q2 2018 sales

Aion's left playerbase is not reluctant to p2w + mobile games' players are often willing to spend 10$ here and there = Aion on mobile is a win-win choice.

(Also they don't have to deal with the angry playerbase on their forums. Just pay some microtransaction with your smartphone and when you are bored enough, uninstall the game. Easy peasy).

Guys lets not forget that the Aion (PC + console project) is being done for NEXT GENERATION consoles. (Wich means playstation 5 / new nintendo maybe and new XBOX series)

Playstation 5 is set to be launched between 2021 and 2022, so this PC project will not be released anytime soon.

Its reportedly confirmed that there is an Unreal Engine 4 game on development stage that is Aion related.
Aion 2 is just Aion Tempest with a new name.

Re: Lapis

There are mobile games like Lineage 2: Revolution that use Unreal 4 engine.  It doesn’t have to be pc/console for that engine.  That game was created by Netmarble with NCSofts Lineage license.

Anyway one less game to keep on my radar.

They're going to keep making these mobile games because it makes them more money. Mostly everyone has a phone not a PC that can run high end graphics. These game designers are just about the money, they could care less what their fan base wants. They have and always will do what makes them the most money. Good or bad. It's a sad state we live in in the gaming world. Everything sucks now, bout to just play old school stuff from back in the day when games were good and fun.

Solid point, particularly for SEA countries and Africa. Japan still has an odd fascination with handhelds and consoles over desktops/laptops. Not sure about how things are in Korea. In China and many SEA countries, it's more practical to have a smartphone over any other computing device. In Africa, tech development has gone at such a rapid pace that they've leapfrogged over typical computing technology in favor of smartphone based businesses, mostly because the development has already been done by Western nations, so there's no reason to go back when mobile computing is the future.

Sadly true. lineage 2 Revolution has earned over $1 Billion USD and has only been out less than a year.   Well, over a year in Korea but it’s a lot of money most games don’t earn.

On top of that, mobile games overall are easier to develop with simple “tapping” gameplay and limited game worlds and skills.

Low effort - high rewards.

Here is the thing read the official blog can you translate in Chrome

http://blog.ncsoft.com/?p=40163

Read the last line which says

NC is developing a number of PC online and console games in addition to the mobile lineup that was unveiled at the event.

Console and PC games take alot longer to develop and more money to develop.  Take combat for example a mobile game is tap here where as pc combat is way more layered.

I mean it was only confirmed in the summer that a pc/next gen console game was coming did we really think by November they would be ready to launch it?  I mean next gen consoles not even out yet so how can a game be ready.

Anyway my 2 cents just step back give it some time it is probably 3 years away from being 3 years away.

I just hope they come back to PC.  I'd love to see a sequel.  I kind of want to know what is supposed to happen with the Tower and the lands supposedly drifting away.

I'd also love a really fresh Aion game that is deep like the present game had been.

A little bit of correcting. Mobile is not dead. Mobile games are the future, unfortunately. In China alone there are over 800 millions playing mobile games. It's a big market for Asia.

Like you said, it's not created by NCSoft but still has a huge profit. Yet, NCSoft created L1M and that is Lineage M, after Lineage 1. It's only released in Korean so far and from what I remember  it is currently top mobile game in Korea. Right now they also develop L2M, and that is Lineage 2 Mobile, a competitor for Lineage 2 Revolution but this time made by NCSoft itself and it's better game.

Aion2 is also mobile, no matter how you look at it. Most of the new projects announced last year by NCSoft were mobile games.
