I always thought Norsvold was one of the most beautiful maps, but sadly, it was not utilized correctly. There was no reason to go to the outer corners nor was it easy to get to any of them. Everyone just stayed in the main city which was so sad as all of that beauty was lost on us.

Oh wow! I started in 3.0. I didn't realize how many of those maps were from previous patches! I remember questing so much in Gelkmaros to get to level cap as fast as I could. I'm so glad I get to experience what it was like prior to those 2.0 maps.

Yeah, Norsvold was my favorite map of all. The feeling I got the moment I stepped in there the first time was almost otherworldly and since then I would just roam around and explore. The music was superb, I was so disappointed it got removed. Iluma had great areas and music as well, it was such a shame.

Damn these maps reminded me of the good and the awful times.

  • ++ Gelkmaros/Inggison were always functional when relevant, then and now.
  • -- Silentera Canyon should have never existed, it never worked and never will. No teleports, a big labyrinth, zergs, strong mobs, no reason to go there in the past, and they really tried hard to make it relevant by simply placing instance entries in 7.x. If the instances entrances weren't there... nobody would visit it for any reason. Such a stale map.
  • ++ Sarpan was ok, but it kinda seemed already obsolete when they implemented it, it was never like a real main map. Just a common city for the first time where elyos and asmodians had the first ever common safe zone.
  • ++ Tiamaranta was so good and it was nicely made with good mechanics, especially the fact it changed between safe zone and pvp zone and also the 3 sieges per day that gave access to Tiamaranta Eye
  • ++ Tiamaranta eye was also nicely constructed, it sure had its own ganging going on but it worked, and when we made sure to lock the enemy faction it was a pve zone.
  • ++ Katalam was pretty much the best map when firstly implemented. It was the first time we had access to good pvp sets without the need to overgrind (blood mark gear) and also it was pretty active back then, sieges were fun and generally you felt you made progress while that maps was going on.
  • +- Danaria was never my thing, I didn't necessarily liked going there. But in function it was pretty much the same to katalam. I sure did do the gliding spot ganking myself too though. I alway thought Katalam was the main map and Danaria was a side map for a strange reason.
  • ++ Idian Depths was strangely a favorite. A common map for both factions, tight corners and corridors. And that bridge pvp where you waited for the shugos to go away and gank those poor travelers, good memories.
  • ?? Levinshor and Kaldor, I rarely went there back then. I almost have no memory of them at all. I think they were never really a main map, I could be wrong. But I also think that was the first time I stopped playing for some months because of how  much I disliked Aion back then.
  • ++ Enshar was good, even until 6.x I loved that map. Nicely made, plenty of different mobs and those elites giving a ton of XP and dying easily.
  • -- Norsvold was so badly implemented. It was pretty much useless anywhere except the very center. It was also heavily rifted and it was the first time they started making some classes super OP like Templars that were pretty much the best pvp class and could kill whole groups. They would get into the city, have guards behind them and still not die and kill half the city.
  • ++ Lakrum worked well and still does, I hate they made it a timed map.
  • -- Demaha was, is and will always be awful. I remember when it became the main map I was not even attending it unless there was an event there. They loved making maps that had awful teleporting and Demaha was one of them. I was always maining Lakrum when Demaha was out. I have never in my life been to a Demaha siege, altar or fortress, this is how much I disliked that map. It was always a legion oriented map and I heavily disliked every aspect of it.
  • -- Red Katalam/Danaria were lame efforts to rebring these maps back. Botched, irrelevant to their previous glory, awful teleports. They were simply maps that existed to give you additional side content.
  • ---Timeless Terrace... you forgot pretty much the most obnoxious map of them all. It tops Silentera Canyon by a mile in how awful it is. Probably because of the way mobs are there, of how it is mostly made for groups and zergs, and especially the fact you had to go there to get the end game pvp gear and gamble a ton of RNG to get it. I have been there for like the first few days it was implemented, I even forgot it existed for quite some time. Needless to say I only got one Bitterthorn item and then simply called it a day for good.

I really loved Tiamaranta's eye. Tia in general was OK too when there was massive amounts of people. Just wish there was more reason for ppl to be in the PVP areas beyond the 1-2 dailies. In general that Stronghold area with the dragons at the bottom was a really cool place to run into fights. Just no reason for the avg players to be there. If they had better quests to fight those dragons and stuff... that would have been awesome.

I hated those 4.X maps. The safe zone circles were the most toxic and annoying things. Only ever found people at BM camps and then once EB released 90% of the world pvp died. Was really shit. I found more, and better pvp in the eye in 4.0 than the maps.

Levinshore was a sick map, but again they failed by not having dailies and things to drive people towards being in the open world. Was basically what caused me to quit. The zones were awesome, and I had a lot of great fights there, but in general there was just not enough reason to be out and the game turned into an instanced game by then. Sad.
