Just did a test today.

Attacker: Level 71 Sorcerer (120 base knowledge)

  • Magic Boost 185/1237/2237/3237
  • No PvP Attack

Defender: Level 65 Gladiator

  • 110 Magical Defense
  • 236 Magic Suppression
  • 666 Magic Resist
  • No PvP Defense

Final damage is reduced to 42% in PvP.

Skills:

  • +8 Aether Flame Lv 1 - 3744 base damage, 100% PvP damage
  • Storm Strike Lv 8 - 5292 base damage, 50% PvP damage
  • Glacial Shard Lv 3 - 4335 base damage, 65% PvP damage

0 net MB:

  • +8 Aether Flame Lv 1 - 1882 damage
  • Storm Strike Lv 8 - 1331 damage
  • Glacial Shard Lv 3 - 1417 damage

1001 net MB:

  • +8 Aether Flame Lv 1 - 3456 damage (5184 crit)
  • Storm Strike Lv 8 - 2443 damage
  • Glacial Shard Lv 3 - 2601 damage

2001 net MB:

  • +8 Aether Flame Lv 1 - 5028 damage
  • Storm Strike Lv 8 - 3554 damage
  • Glacial Shard Lv 3 - 3784 damage (5677 crit)

3001 net MB:

  • +8 Aether Flame Lv 1 - 6601 damage
  • Storm Strike Lv 8 - 4666 damage
  • Glacial Shard Lv 3 - 4968 damage

So each point of MB will add the same damage. For Aetherflame, the difference increase for increasing 1000 MB are as follows:

  • Difference between 0 and 1001 net MB: 1574
  • Difference between 1001 and 2001 net MB: 1572
  • Difference between 2001 and 3001 net MB: 1573

Oh interesting!

Also, I figured out what I did wrong. I was calculating for a % damage increase with the wrong reference frame (e.g. I calculated the % increase from X MB to Y MB instead of from 0 MB to Y MB).

Checking to make sure the data matches the formula:

Total Damage = Base Spell damage (White Knowledge / 100 + Net Magic Boost / 1000 ) -> Total DMG in PvP = (Base DMG * knowledge / 100 + Base DMG * MB / 1000) * 0.42

Total DMG = (C + Base DMG * MB /1000) * 0.42

Change in total DMG  =  (C + Base DMG*MB1/1000) * 0.42 - (C + Base DMG*MB2/1000) * 0.42 =  (Base DMG*MB1/1000) * 0.42 - (Base DMG*MB2/1000) * 0.42 =

0.42 * Base DMG * (MB1 - MB2) / 1000

So your damage change = the 42% PvP restriction * the spell's base damage * the difference in MB / 1000

In your experiment, for aetherflame, 1000 MB = the difference in MB, and spell base damage = 3744

Theoretical damage change = 0.42 * 3744 base dmg * 1000 MB difference / 1000 = 0.42 * 3744 = **1572.48**

Experimental damage change = **1573**

Awesome! So the MB formula and the PvP modifier is absolutely accurate. Thanks for the insight, Moo!

Also, because of this PvP modifier, does this mean that socketing 10 attack only bumps up your damage in PvP by 4.2 per hit?

And note that "attack" stat only affects physical damage (auto attacks and attack skills). It does not affect magical weapons (e.g. orbs, spellbooks, musical instruments). Does not affect spells.

When dual wielding, "attack" add damage to both weapons when auto attacking. (a bit less than 2x total, offhand attacks have random damage penalty)

So Mb still works like before.

I had one doubt from some time ago, but I never checked. If our MSupp is higher than our enemy´s MB, the remaining MSupp start lowering the base damage or it just counts as +0MB and it does the base damage.

Example. Toon A has 2200 MB, Toon B has 2800 M Supp. So at the end A does damage like 0MB, or the remaining 600 M Supp start to reduce the base damage in the same proportion (1200MB = +100%) so A does only half of the base damage. :P
