Things that need to be adressed/fixed

Decent rebuttal.

A few things:

I am not defending the new system. I have said multiple times that I am not a fan, but the patch is a week and a half old. Transformations are a new thing and new things are never comfortable. I've been here since '09. Every single time a system changes players freak out and every single time we get used to it.. and then the thing changes again. It's the way of not only Aion, but all games.

You have an odd way of not defending the system by going about telling other people that are voicing their concerns to "Shut it," or find other games and hobbies when they, just like yourself, have invested a lot of time and money into this.

And yes, the systems change and the people that choose to stick around for each change eventually get used to things, but that is actually part of the problem. Each and every time there has been a drastic change for the worse, people have stood by and told others to "get over it," much to NCSoft's benefit. The reason NC can keep making the asinine decisions that they do is because every time people post dissenting opinions, a select few rally behind the bad decisions by management and circle jerk each other to silence the critics. The cycle is repeating itself yet again. No surprise the population is falling across all regions. Here's the thing: you stand to benefit by being supportive of people who are critical of the game. We all know any criticism of the game will likely fall upon deaf ears at NC HQ, but in the off chance they realize the critics have a point and try to alleviate the terrible decisions they've made, you stand to benefit from it. You gain nothing but resentment from others when you try to invalidate their concerns, and worse, NC is emboldened to keep up their bad behavior when they see their critics falling silent.

We have seen a lot of rhetoric on the forums about the company being greedy. All companies are greedy. They all want to make money. We have seen the company being accused of being unethical. That I just don't understand. They offer a service they allow us to use totally for free and then add incentives to get us to pay for that service. Sometimes those incentives are pretty high. It isn't unethical to push people to pay for the service you are providing them.

The game went F2P around 2012 or 2013? In that time, the cash shop has never felt like a necessity. We had more servers then, a bigger population, and a decent support staff, yet the game remained solvent. That's 5 to 6 years of monetizing in a relatively fair fashion. Since then, what has changed? The number of servers and the population declined drastically, and support has been off-shored. By all accounts, the quality of the game has declined all around and they need even LESS money than before to keep things running, yet they put in a new and rather punishing monetization scheme compared to the past. Look at how you're being treadmilled, from kinah,to ingots, to Luna. Never before have they slapped so many different restrictions over their content. Things seem simpler for us because we're long-time veterans. You and I don't need to pay for anything because we had so much material saved up from previous patches. But new players? They can't keep up without throwing money at the game, even on a new server. And the patch is designed in such a way to dangle the things like transformations, scrolls, ingots, and Luna to take advantage of the weak-willed who have difficulty suppressing their need for immediate gratification. Noticed those Luna pop-ups each time you enter an instance? Yeah, it's there to exploit those with poor impulse control, not much different from casinos with flashy lights and jingles to bombard the senses and incentivize gambling. Seems pretty unethical to me, especially when the game is targeted towards teens and young adults.

We have even heard that the company -forces- you to do something and there I put my foot down. Listen up.. NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO DO ANYTHING. Yes. I pulled out the all caps. If you don't like the look of the transforms, don't use them. If you want to use them and don't like the look of the transforms, you can use the transparent ones. If you don't want to pay for the transparent transforms, there are multiple ways to get them in game without spending real money. If you can't get enough transparent scrolls this way, then pick and chose when you use them. Don't use one while clearing mobs in an instance and only pop one for bosses. Don't use them at all in easy instances. Common sense, people, beats stubborn, blind panic. Every. Single. Time.

That's the thing though, you really can't accomplish much of anything without the transformations. That's why people are frustrated and angry. It's not really a choice when you're hobbled so badly that you can't do anything without transforms; the choice has been made for you. And yes, there are multiple ways of getting them in game without spending real money, but again, look at how badly the system is designed. They literally threw treadmills on top of each other so you can treadmill while you treadmill. I already mentioned this: for 9 years, we've never had such an abusive system such as the one that's been thrown at us with this patch. It isn't blind panic to see an exploitative system for what it is and call them on it.

I actually like the transforms better than scrolls because it's only one thing I have to pop. I don't have to pop a run scroll AND an atk/cast scroll AND a crit scroll. I just have one thing to deal with. Furthermore, my chanter can have both atk speed and cast speed now. YAY! If I could toggle off the appearance of the transforms (for free), I'd be 100% happy with them.

Sadly, I don't think NCsoft is going to do that for us, so I have to live with it. Either I live with it or I stop using them or I stop playing the game. We all have that decision to make. For me, although I hate looking like Ereshkigal's Drakan, I will choose to look like it in order to play the game to my best ability. Do I force anyone else to make that same decision? No. So again, you make your choice and I will make mine. I might not be 100% happy with my choice, but it is mine to make.

@Forgotten-DN I get you and I do understand what you are saying.

I never told anyone to shut it. The forums are the place to post issues that you have and we can have a discussion without it falling into name calling or other childish antics.

What is wearing thin on -my- nerves (and others might be totally find with it) is what I am calling the blind panic. "I'm being forced to pay real money to see my character! I DEMAND THAT NCSOFT COMPENSATE ME FOR THE 5 BILLION KINAH I SPENT FOR MY SKINS! I want a full refund of 2 years of Prestige because I can't even stand next to a furry without becoming physically ill!" If you have been reading the forums, you know that none of those statements is an exaggeration. Each one of them has been made, though I did combine a few. My point is.. we get it. Very few people posting like the new transform system. ( @Vantheria-DN is an odd ball, but we knew that already. <3 )  I have admitted that I don't like it either. Some of the transforms are downright repulsive, but I was one of those people who was willing to be a creepy chihuahua or an absurdly fat polar bear with my shield clipping through my back in order to run and cast 3% faster. It could mean the different between life and death in game.

We absolutely 100% need some changes to the current system. Rather than flutter my hands and make over the top statements and threats, I think it is far more helpful to make suggestions. The bottom line is that the transparent (and non-transparent) scrolls are not as readily available in game as they should be. We can get both types.. just not in the quantity that we really need to remain competitive. If the amount we could get of each in game was bumped up a bit and the price drastically reduced in the cash shop for them, I believe we could all be happy. NCWest could make money from the hardcore and the more casual players could get done what they need to do without looking silly.

You can go ahead and stop reading if you don't want to delve into the oddness of Aly's thinking.

You've been warned!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking about a good way to link what is happening in game to a real world example and I think I have hit on one.

Not too long ago the place where I lived passed a law that forced retailers to charge for shopping bags. So something we got for free every time we made a purchase now costs 5 cents. It's not much, but we did used to get them for free. I have seen many many reactions to this. I have seen customers ahead of me in line throw down all their purchases, screaming about how they refuse to pay 5 cents for a bag to put them in and storm out of the store.. shouting the whole way. I have seen people sigh and pay the 5 cents. I have seen people refuse to pay and jumble their purchases all the way to the car. And I have seen people come into the stores with their reusable bags and pop their new purchases in them and walk away with a smile. Now. Some people bought those reusable bags.. so they kinda paid their 5 cents up front. Some people took advantage of the promotions of other stores who were giving those reusable ones away for free in those first few weeks. Like me! So yeah. I may look totally silly walking into a clothing store and walking out with my new clothes in a lime green bag advertising a pharmacy, but meh. I don't mind looking a little silly. I just saved 5 cents!

So here we are in Aion. The powers-that-be have now changed the way we run fast. Something we counted on and was convenient as all get-out and was practically -free- (because who didn't have a crafter who could churn out run speed scrolls by the thousands?) has been put behind a door. First we need to RNG ourselves a decent transform. That has sort of been fixed with the pumpkin event. (Well done, NCWest!) Then we need to get those scrolls that let us use that transform. It's pretty easy to get the non-transparent ones, though not easy enough, imo. It's much harder to get the non-transparent ones and the price for them in the cash shop is, imo, way too high. So now what will we do? Will we scream about the issue and storm out the door? That's our right. We most certainly can. Will we play without the transform and jumble and bumble and really nerf ourselves? It's an option for some. Will we pay the price for the transparent ones even if it's steep? Some people will. Will we try and find ways around paying anything and still have the transform? That's what I am trying to do with mixed success. Everyone needs to make their own choices here. None of the above options is wrong. It's all about our own personal tolerance.

So what can we do if we totally hate the transforms period? If we want to go back to the way things were with our practically free run speed scrolls? The same thing the people of my county can do. We can lobby our legislature to change the law. We can do that violently and childishly with wild accusations or we can act like adults and give constructive criticism, though I feel that our ability to get this law changed is probably the same as getting Korea to add the run speed scrolls back in game. It could happen, but I honestly think it's here to stay.

Rather than running in a panic into a brick wall while making wild accusations and exaggerations, let's act like adults and make constructive suggestions. I think we will have far more success getting a compromise that most of us can live with.

A blanket "So shut it about greed," not targeted at anyone specifically is still not conducive to discussion, I'm pretty sure we can agree on that. Going to be more civil moving forward then? That's all that matters. Let people like Morrigan and Kailor have their say without denigrating their statements as childish or overly emotional and no one would take issue with anything else you've said.

The example you use about plastic bags doesn't really work: less plastics in the environment is beneficial for all, and the marginal fee they ask for it is meant to discourage excessive waste. This type of change is beneficial for all of society, even if you don't believe in humans causing climate change or anything related to green initiatives.

The gates NC puts up on their content benefits no one but NC. You know this. Technically, you can point to the new site and forums as somewhat of a positive change, but when you compare what players are putting in to what they're getting in return, any outside (objective) observer would agree that players are getting the shaft with this patch, more so than ever before.

In any case, I don't want to drag this out any further; I've said my piece and I'm fully receptive to anything you may or may not be saying moving forward (I'll be reading them), but replies from me will be limited.

Real world example: We are each born (created) to look a certain way. We buy clothing, makeup whatever to have an appearance that pleases us. That's all well and good BUT, what if your country's leader came along and made a law that everyone has to wear an orange penguin suit, including the mask that covers your whole head or, you can pay 20 dollars/euros/lyra, etc... per hour not to wear the orange penguin suit. Wearing the suit or, paying the 20 per hour will both get you a perfect metabolism and, you'll get fat/thin/be sick, some negative thing without it. You won't be arrested for not paying or wearing the suit but, you'll be slow and sick and, no one will want to do anything with you.

So it no longer matters that you spent tens of thousands on clothes, hair, skin care, make up, etc... and your genetics no longer matter, that great hair, good jaw, perfect eyes, toned legs, whatever it is you think is your best feature no longer matters because everyone wears a costume, or pays out the ying-yang to not wear one. Most will go broke and, be forced to wear the costume in a few weeks. A scant few will choose to be sick and slow instead but, they will be ostracized and isolated and, won't be allowed to go to concerts, movies, out to eat or anything.

Plain silly, stupid, ridiculous right? Well that's EXACTLY what NCFail did with transformations.

Aion 1.0-5.8: Pay $10 for a skin.

Aion 6.2: Pay $10 + another 0,80~1 to be able to see it while you are playing.

Yep not exploitative at all.

Can't really blame capitalism/corporate greed when there's people that will be ok with everything that gets thrown at them.

Yup. And many of us saw this the moment we looked at 6.x in Korea months and months ago. But still there were people fluttering about calling this patch the savior of Aion. It isn't. It was never going to be. With this patch, Korea went f2p so it stands to reason that there are far more pay2win or pay2progressfasters than before when NA had to ask Korea to put in more options to get people to pay. NCSoft is no different than any other game developer in that they are business. They develop and publish games to make money.. not out of the goodness of their heart. You absolutely can play all of Aion without paying a dime, but it isn't easy. Nor was it meant to be. It's not greed to want to make money. It's business.

We need to stop being so freaking naive and weeping and throwing tantrums when a gaming company puts in place things that make us want to spend money. We need to be adults and look at this as adults. A company puts out a product to make money. They allow us to use the product totally for free and then add little incentives (or big ones) to tempt us to pay them for the product they are allowing us to use for free.

So shut it about greed.

If there are too many things you feel you want or need to pay for and you don't want to or don't feel like paying for these things then go find another game or another hobby. The shock and dismay over a company trying to make money is really wearing thin.

There are so many times over the few years of Aion where I wish they had never gone f2p. I wish no games had. I wish they were all sub games where everything we want and need is free in the game, because they are making all of their money from our sub. This childish attitude about being forced to pay for a service makes me want to kick a kitten.

EDIT: @Hallo-DN.. I agree with all your points, especially the kinah fees at the broker. Well worded post.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed the NCSoft white knight circlejerk and how it only compounds the problems resulting from NC's awful decisions. Thanks for pointing it out for all to see. It's been going on for as long as I remember/been playing the game (5+ years). It's good to see that more players/posters are no longer putting up with:

"Deal with it"

"I had to deal with it, so you should too"

"If you don't like it, play another game/find another hobby"

"Things have always been this way"

"Don't worry you will get used to it"

etc.

Oh and let's not forget being called "children", that we should put on our "big boy/girl pants" and that we are "weeping", "throwing tantrums", "violent", "panicking," "overwrought", "stubborn," not "rational," etc. along with whatever other patronizing hyperboles they can think of. Who are the ones exaggerating again?

Okay, how about you send me 5.00 every time you want to get nude, like to take a shower or change clothes? Same thing, paying to be the default and, that's silly, stupid and plain WRONG.

Yes you can get a FEW (like 10-15) free transparent transformations per week. So, then I go farm those for 5 minutes per week for 10 weeks, then I can play for ONE DAY and not be gimped and kicked for not using transformations. ONE DAY out of every 70 days. How about dev only get paid for 1 hour out of every 70 they work, but they have to work all 70 hours or they get nothing at all? Equally as silly as transformations being pay to hide.

Hey hey, @Kailor-DN not trying to be offensive but I think you just need to leave the game for a bit and perhaps play another game to take a chill pill for a bit ya know? Like really, at the rate you are going, sooner or later you gotta see a psychiatrist man. Think about it man, your health or the game?

I think NCMONEYGRUBBERS need to fix the one HUGE mistake they made - PAY TO SEE DEFAULT. Nowhere in the world do you pay to see default, you pay to change default PERIOD. Game, life whatever. You don't pay to be naked (default how you were made) you pay to change that with clothing, makeup, hair dye etc...

I get paying for transformations, that's fine, what isn't fine is being gimped and kicked form groups and alliances for not using them or being forced to PAY FOR DEFAULT. Yes, pay for skins, pay to alter the default look - good, that should cost. It should not cost to just be the default.

What if your job or school told you it would kick you out if you didn't either pay 70% of your income DAILY or wear a purple polar bear suit at all times? Same thing they did in the game - be a cartoon animal or monster, pay most of you income or, get kicked out. I REFUSE to be pushed out of the game and, I refuse to shut up about what is wrong in any world.

I'll accept transformations when it's the norm to have to pay to be nude in the real world - same thing, pay to be default and, it's WRONG.

But seriously though @Kailor-DN why don't you just join the guys in the other thread where you don't play the game till whatever you demand is fixed. Because let us be honest, you probably aren't very happy being salty about it on the forums either so why not preserve your sanity and go take a chill pill in another game. Aion isn't the only game with an okay character creator, you can probably make a nicer looking character somewhere else.

So in your mind, running luna on multiple clients just so you can acquire scrolls that let you hide illusions forced on people that don't want them, can be considred "normal" gameplay?

Beginning to understand why NCSoft gets away with what they do. When "THIS" sort of behaviour is considered...normal.

You train your sheep well NCSoft.

Some people simply have no integrity. Or are simply far too naive to realize when they're being played.

Like the old quote says, "There's a sucker born every minute." Which is why corporate greed works.

can you not just afk luna on a 2nd client like normal people before qqing for weeks about the smallest problem of them all ?

What makes you think that I'm not?? In fact I'm doing it rn, does not change the fact that it's a stupid thing that needs to be addressed and NC wont unless we complain about it. They just took one of the key selling points of the game and put it behind a alt-grind/paywall and you are here saying it's just some unimportant thing...

- These complaints are not justified because people that complain are not "doing what it takes" -

Lol get off your high horse, I'd really like to know if you'd still be afking luna all day on your alts for those 20 scrolls/week if we had them on the golden sand shop like other regions...

I will have said my peace when something is done to correct the wrong. Until something is done, it is NOT resolved. I do not take "Shut up and go away" from anyone, person, company whatever when there is a problem. The problem will be fixed and, I will not go away or shut up until it is. If the means calling or posting the same issue 100 times, so be it and, yes, I have spend as long as a week calling a company every 30 minutes, around the clock to get a problem fixed but,m it got fixed and, they noted my account. Now, I call, I get solutions, not some "shut up and go away" run around.

Because "Shut up and go away" is exactly what WILL NOT get anything done about the problems. Transformations being the biggest one to me, but broker fees, inability to earn enough kinah to even cover flights and teleports in a day. Lack of ability to broker or trade items you cannot use but someone else could. lack of ability to sell or trade crafted items, lack of ability to transfer kinah between characters on your account. All of it needs to be fixed and, ignoring it and going away is NOT going to get it fixed. Speaking up and, refusing to shut up until it's fixed is what will get something done about it.

This in a nut shell is what's happening. They're ripping casino floor tricks and applying them to every game possible.

The so called "free to play" model is basically a casino model, it centers around attacking those weak willed and who want instant gratification, it attacks the impulses of people to gamble and to simply pay. It masks the overall high price with low amounts per transaction and lastly, it gives you teaser items as free just to give you a "taste" of what it's like. It's like casinos giving you free rolls at the slot machine - before you bankrupt yourself over it.

Casinos are regulated and for good reason, because gambling is a devastating addition. Online games desperately need regulation. If we're all concerned we should all be writing our reps to raise this concern and make it a reality. We've all read news of some kid with their parents credit card racking up thousands of dollars of credit card debt over one game. I'm sure we've all read the EA lootbox fiasco. NC games are no different, it's only because they have lower market share that they're less visible and thus unreported on.

I'd honestly like to see "free" games regulated to the point where they're economically unsound and to make money companies would have to run a subscription model. Given how all free games revolve around fleecing players with gambling tactics it's not a far stretch to say that if government ever took a look at this nonsense, they'd hammer is so badly that everything would go back to how it was 10 years ago - subscription and fun. Imagine if, to play a free game like this you needed to be 21+ and to provide valid ID to play because the game involves gambling? If they had to publish all the chances of what you could get? If they had to give you warnings each time you did something that was a gamble? These types of practices would evaporate overnight. As it is, gaming companies are making money hand over fist until government steps in to regulate. Casinos once made money hand over fist in the same manner prior to regulation.

I for one will be certainly writing as many letters I can to as many people I can to make this a reality. These practices are NOT O.K. Complaining on forums is one thing, but real action will require contacting the people who can make a difference, not the company. I suggest everyone in agreement does the same. Write to your rep, write to your senator. They're the ones who will matter if they take up the concerns.
